Detroit Lions cornerback Aaron Berry lit the world of Twitter on fire after Saturday's 45-28 loss at New Orleans in an NFC wild-card playoff game.
Berry — who had a potential momentum-shifting interception slip through his fingertips, his arms, then his legs — had this to say on his account @LockDown717, presumably in response to a rash of negative Twitter feedback thrown his way:
“Y'all can go back to being Broke & Miserable...now back to regular scheduled programming...”
Ooh-wee. That stings. For someone.
He then attempted to recant his incendiary comment by deleting the first tweet and publishing these two:
“I apologize to my loyal fans for my tweet...jus disgusting how ppl can get when they don't know nothin at all...”
Followed by:
“Now y'all making it seem like I was talking to all the fans in Detroit...boy y'all funny...Have a blessed night!!!”
Now, it's unclear whom Berry was targeting with that first tweet, but given that very few Saints fans were lambasting him (and the fact that the Saints are not “back to regular scheduled programming” given their winning ways) there are a limited number of targets that that potshot could have been fired at.
Clearly he offended some hometown folks.
Most offensive to Detroit fans, though: Berry and the rest of Lions'
secondary were torched for 466 yards and three scores by Saints QB Drew
Brees.
On Sunday morning he tweeted again saying: "Damn what I said was not intended nor toward any fans of Detroit...what is wrong with y'all...y'all took it how y'all wanted to #getoffme."
