Lightning owner Jeff Vinik to be honored for charitable contributions
Tampa Bay Lightning owner Jeff Vinik will be honored with the 2014 Award of Excellence, presented by the Ronald McDonald House of Charities of Tampa Bay.
Vinik and his wife, Penny, pledged more than $10 million to be donated through the Lightning Foundation over five years to the Lightning Community Heroes program. During each home game, the Lightning recognize a local hero and respective charity with a $50,000 donation.
The franchise has also committed 4,000 hours of community service each season through the team's volunteer program, C.H.A.R.G.E. (Contributing Hours Across our Region throug our Generous Employees).
Vinik will accept the award on Saturday, May 17 during the 15th annual Storybook Ball "Madagascar" at the Tampa Convention Center.
