Lightning forces delay in 49ers-Seahawks game

By Ross Jones, FOXSports.com Shocked that it’s raining in Seattle? Well, you shouldn’t be. But how about a little lightning? Yeah, that’s what delayed the 49ers-Seahawks game with 3:13 remaining in the first quarter at CenturyLink Field. Both teams headed into the locker room after head official John Parry made the announcement that the game would be delayed. “We will resume play when it’s safe to play,” Parry said. Vice President of game operations Mike Kensil will make the decision when the game will resume. It's tentatively scheduled for the players to come out at 6:55 p.m. PT and to resume the action at 7:05 p.m. PT. The officials will allow the players 10 minutes to warm up. Let’s hope this isn’t the year weather delays run rampant in the NFL. We'd also love to point out FOXSports.com commenter Jim Duvall's interesting take on why it's important to delay the game. We here at Laces Out like to support insightful comments: "As an electrical engineer who has been in the field of lightning protection for 50 years, it is smart to delay due to lightning. There is a false impression that lightning only strikes the highest point. There is actually a sphere of protection from the highest point. With these large open stadiums, most of the playing field would be outside that sphere of protection. The out come of a football game or any other sport is not worth a life."Questions? Comments?
