Ryan Miller is looking for a second straight win with the St. Louis Blues, while attempting to win over the fans of his new team.
Martin St. Louis could find himself in the same situation soon.
Miller will likely make his home debut for the Blues on Tuesday night when they face the Tampa Bay Lightning, who may be captained by St. Louis for the last time.
St. Louis (40-14-6) acquired Miller in a trade with Buffalo on Saturday in the hopes that improved goaltending can help it make a serious run at the franchise's first Stanley Cup.
The Blues got a taste of what Miller can deliver Sunday, when he made 23 saves in support of a four-goal third period in a 4-2 win at Phoenix.
"It's quite an experience to change teams," Miller said. "You want to get off to a good start and start to work with the boys, kind of show them what you can do and earn their trust."
The 2010 Vezina Trophy winner is looking to do the same for the home fans as he's expected to make his team debut at Scottrade Center.
"You switch teams, you start from scratch," Miller said. "It's definitely something where you want to show the fans what you can do. You want them to feel comfortable with you in net. That's just kind of what I'm going for."
Miller's only appearance at Scottrade was a loss with the Sabres on Jan. 21, 2012, and he's dropped five of seven games against Tampa Bay (34-22-5) behind a 2.46 goals-against average.
St. Louis has scored a goal in each of the last two meetings with Miller, and this one could be his finale with the Lightning, who are reportedly listening to offers ahead of Wednesday's trade deadline.
The 15-year veteran leads the team with 29 goals and 60 points, but he was kept off the score sheet in Sunday's 6-3 loss at Colorado. He had two goals in each of the previous two games.
That defeat was the sixth in nine games for Tampa Bay, which has allowed 28 goals during that span. A pair of second-period goals by Nate Thompson gave the Lightning a 3-2 lead Sunday, but the Avalanche scored four unanswered in the final 20 minutes.
"I think we're going through a little bit of a rough patch," Thompson said. "A couple breakdowns there at the end and they end up in the back of the net, unfortunately."
Part of those defensive issues can be traced to Ben Bishop's mediocre play of late. Bishop, who began his career with the Blues in 2008, is 6-5-0 with a 2.73 GAA in his last 13 starts after going 23-5-4 with a 1.80 GAA in his first 34.
The Lightning may not have an easy time getting back on track at St. Louis, which is among the league's best teams at home with a 22-5-3 record, averaging 3.67 goals per game there.
Patrik Berglund scored two of the four third-period goals against the Coyotes, his first in 17 games.
Schwartz has nine goals and seven assists in 14 home games.
