LeBron James emerged from a meeting with Miami Heat president Pat Riley in Las Vegas on Wednesday, with James making no clear commitment on his future, according to multiple reports.
James is deciding where to sign next after opting out his contract with the Heat in late June. The Miami Heat and Cleveland Cavaliers are said to be the two finalists.
A league source told FOX Sports Ohio the Cavs had not received any word from James or his camp immediately after the meeting with the Heat. According to a multiple sources, James wants to talk to his family before making his destination known. Yahoo Sports reported James left the meeting without committing to the Heat.
Early Wednesday, a source told FOX Sports Ohio that James had made up his mind prior to the meeting with Riley -- and that James would wait until Thursday to announce his decision, likely on his website, lebronjames.com.
Sources also told FOX Sports Ohio that James' two young sons and perhaps his wife returned to the family's Akron, Ohio, home on Wednesday.
The meeting with Riley was believed to be James' first face-to-face talk with a team since James opted out of his contract. His Cleveland-based agent, Rich Paul, met with representatives from the Cavs, Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks and Phoenix Suns last week.
Paul is encouraging his star client to return to Cleveland, sources told FOX Sports Ohio on Wednesday.
Respected basketball website Sheridan Hoops is reporting James has made his decision and will indeed return to the Cavs. FOX Sports Ohio and multiple other outlets have been unable to confirm that report through James' camp, the Heat or the Cavs.
The Cavs selected James with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft, but James departed for the Heat in 2010 via free agency.
James and the Heat have reached four straight NBA Finals, winning two. However, they were quickly and easily dispatched in five games by the San Antonio Spurs last month, leading some to believe James would return to his Northeast Ohio roots and the younger Cavs.
James has been named league MVP four times.
Fellow Heat stars Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade also opted out of their contracts in late June. Both remain unsigned.
