CLEVELAND – The Cavaliers have traded point guard
Ramon Sessions and swingman Christian Eyenga to the Los Angeles Lakers
for a 2012 first-round draft pick and forwards Luke Walton and Jason
Kapono, according to sources on both sides. In addition, Amico is reporting that the Lakers have sent Derek Fisher was traded tot he Rockets for forward Jordan Hill.
The Lakers also receive the right to swap their 2013 first-round pick with the one the Cavs’ acquired from Miami.
The trade had been in works for weeks, says a source familiar with
the situation, but the Lakers’ hesitancy to surrender a first-round pick
delayed the deal. When they finally relented, the sides needed to match
salaries to make it happen, which is why Walton, Kapono and Eyenga were
included in the deal.
Sessions, 25, is a four-year veteran averaging 10.5 points and 5.1 assists. While the
Cavs hated trading him, they also knew it would be difficult to find the
long-term minutes he is seeking while playing behind rookie Kyrie
Irving. Sessions can opt out of his contract at the end of the season,
which was another consideration.
The
6-3 guard was originally selected by the Milwaukee Bucks in the second round
(56th overall) of the 2007 NBA Draft and played for the Bucks and
the Timberwolves before being traded to the Cavaliers in the summer of 2010. He
currently owns career averages of 11.0 points, 3.1 rebounds and 4.9 assists in
300 games.
Eyenga,
the 30th overall pick by Cleveland in the 2009 NBA Draft, has played
in six games this season averaging 1.5 points and 2.0 rebounds in 13.8 minutes.
The 6-7 forward played in 44 games as a rookie with the Cavaliers averaging 6.9
points, 2.8 rebounds and 0.8 assists in 21.5 minutes. For his career, the
22-year old from the Congo has posted averages of 6.2 points and 2.7 rebounds
in 20.4 minutes.
