LA Olympics women's discus gold medal winner admits doping
THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) Dutch discus thrower Ria Stalman, who retired after winning gold at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, has admitted using anabolic steroids during the final years of her career.
Stalman confessed her doping in an interview with Dutch television program Andere Tijden Sport being broadcast Friday night.
She told the show that ''in the last two and a half years of my career I took a small daily dose of anabolic steroids.''
With a throw of 65.36 meters, Stalman beat American thrower Leslie Deniz into second place at the Los Angeles Games.
Stalman said she decided to begin doping after seeing bulky Eastern Bloc throwers exceed the distance she could throw. She says she thought, '''if you can't beat them, join them,' and that's what I did.''
