KU to host Kentucky in January in Big 12/SEC Challenge

If Jayhawks fans want to wash away memories of last season's ugliest loss on the hardwood, they'll get their chance next Jan. 30 when the Kentucky Wildcats visit Allen Fieldhouse.

It was last Nov. 18 that Kansas and Kentucky met in the ESPN Champions Classic in Indianapolis and the No. 1 Wildcats thrashed the No. 5 Jayhawks 72-40.

Of course, coach John Calipari's Kentucky roster has virtually turned over since its almost-perfect season ended in a national championship semifinal loss to Wisconsin. And the Jayhawks will have some new players entering a rotation that no longer will feature early departures Kelly Oubre and Cliff Alexander.

Be that as it may, a KU win in the latest edition of the Big 12/SEC Challenge would go a long way toward salving wounds from their last matchup.

KU and Kentucky have played six times during coach Bill Self's Jayhawks tenure, with the series tied at 3-3. Overall, Kentucky leads the series 22-6, including the last three games. The Jayhawks, however, have won the last three meetings at Allen Fieldhouse, most recently in 2006.
