Kinsler’s play at second is salute worthy
ARLINGTON, Texas —
Ian Kinsler's defensive play in the seventh inning Tuesday night was so
good manager Ron Washington gave him a
salute.
Kinsler's snare of an Alex Rios grounder up
the middle and throw to first was good enough that Washington gave
Kinsler a military salute from the dugout.
It's the
kind of reward that perfection merits. That's what Washington thought of
the play.
"That was a very sharp play," Washington
said. "He made it as perfectly as you could make. That's when I saluted
because it was perfect. That's the only way he could do it — catch the
ball and get rid of it and let whatever happens
happen."
Kinsler didn't see the salute but chuckled
when he saw the replay.
As for the play itself, it
wasn't even one Kinsler was supposed to make.
"Elvis
(Andrus) should have had that ball to be honest with you," Kinsler said.
"He fouled a ball off his leg early in the game and he was kind of
hobbling around a little bit slow. It was funny before that play he told
me to make sure I got everything up the middle so I went at it a little
more aggressive than I normally do. It turned out good."
