Kevin Borseth resigns
Kevin Borseth has resigned as Michigan's women's basketball coach and will return to Wisconsin-Green Bay, the university announced Wednesday.
"I have decided to resign my position and return to Wisconsin-Green Bay as head coach," Borseth said in a statement. "My family and I have really enjoyed our time at Michigan. We have made some terrific friends and we will miss everybody.
"I would like to thank everyone at the University of Michigan for giving me this opportunity to be the women's basketball coach, and I wish everyone the best in the future."
Borseth coached at Wisconsin-Green Bay for nine seasons before joining Michigan in 2007, but the move is a surprise. Borseth had just led the Wolverines to their first NCAA tournament appearance since 2001. They lost 88-67 to Oklahoma in the first round, just 16 days before Borseth's sudden resignation.
"Kevin felt it was best for him and his family to return to Green Bay," said athletic director Dave Brandon. "We appreciate all that Kevin has done for the Michigan women's basketball program over the past five years, and we wish the Borseth family the best of everything as they move back home to Green Bay."
Borseth finished with a 77-73 overall record at Michigan, including a 38-48 Big Ten record, and led the Wolverines to three NIT appearance and this year's NCAA bid in his five seasons.
