Kazmirek, Theisen-Eaton hold leads at Hypo Meeting

GOETZIS, Austria (AP) Kai Kazmirek of Germany led the men's decathlon after the opening day of the IAAF World Challenge Hypo Meeting on Saturday, and last year's winner Brianne Theisen-Eaton built a slim lead in the women's heptathlon.

Kazmirek trailed two-time world champion Trey Hardee of the United States after three events but won the high jump and the 400 meters. The European under-23 champion tops the field with 4,478 points.

Hardee, who won the event three years ago, is second with 4,361 and Yordani Garcia of Cuba third with 4,260.

Theisen-Eaton gained 3,938 points from the first four events to lead Katarina Johnson-Thompson of Britain by 15 points and Nafissatou Thiam of Belgium by 18.

Dafne Schippers of the Netherlands, who won the 100 hurdles and the 200, is fourth with 3,865.
