Judge drops rape charge against ex-Tigers pitcher
DETROIT (AP) -- A judge has dismissed rape charges against former Detroit Tigers pitcher Evan Reed, saying a woman's testimony wasn't credible and prosecutors failed to show that force or coercion took place.
The 28-year-old Reed appeared in 27 games for Detroit before being sent to his current assignment with the Triple-A Toledo Mud Hens.
The judge ruled Thursday after a 45-year-old woman testified that Reed sexually assaulted her at a downtown casino hotel after they met at a suburban bar.
The woman testified during a probable cause hearing for Reed, who was charged with third-degree criminal sexual conduct.
The woman says she "blacked out" at the bar March 30 after taking a drink she says tasted "sour" and believes may have been drugged.
Reed says the sex was consensual.
