JuCo transfer Russell could have instant impact for Sooners
NORMAN, Okla. - The Sooners need some help on the defensive line.
Quincy Russell could be that guy – and he hasn't even put the pads on yet.
Russell has practiced with the team the past two days, but has yet to put on full pads, per NCAA rules. He will be able to wear full pads Tuesday.
And despite not having gone through all the team's workouts the past few weeks, expect Russell to contribute immediately. Stoops said he was "very impressed" with Russell who is expected to be at defensive tackle.
Already this August the Sooners have lost two defensive linemen to injuries. Oklahoma lost five defensive linemen off of last season's team.
"I'm very confident he'll be ready," Stoops said of Russell playing in the opening game, Aug. 31 vs. Louisiana-Monroe.
