Welcome home, JSerra.

When the JSerra High School football team takes the field Sept. 1 against Alemany, it will be the first time the Lions have played in a true home game as the school christens a new football field with bleacher seating and a student section.

“We are eager and excited for the opportunity to kick off the school year with home football games for the first time in school history,” said Athletic Director Chris Ledyard. “We are especially excited about the prospect of building even closer relationships with our neighbors in San Juan Capistrano and the surrounding communities while showing everybody who comes a window into the future of the high school football experience.”

At No. 8 in the FOX Sports West Prep Zone Rankings, the Lions have not played a true home game in their 14 seasons. They spent the last decade playing games at Saddleback Community College.

In addition to the new seating on campus for games, the school is planning live game footage on a jumbotron,  “Friday Night Bites” concessions such as nachos, pizza, and candy, and unique school spirit items specially made for each game.

“In our effort to build excitement and school spirit, we’ve incorporated several new programs into our pre-season efforts, including encouraging the football team to join choir and play the hand bells,” JSerra Head Coach Pat Harlow said. “I’m proud to report that several members of the team are also proud choir members. The idea is for our team to integrate deeply with the entire JSerra community to build meaningful relationships and become more well-rounded young men.”
