Jones not worried about Cowboys training camp fan attendance being down
OXNARD, Calif. - Are the Dallas Cowboys losing some of their national appeal?
Through four days of training camp practices last year in Oxnard, 13,230 fans attended. Through eight days, that number increased to 31,906.
Through four days this year, the total is at 11,002.
Is Cowboys chief operating officer Stephen Jones surprised the crowd numbers are down?
"Not really," Jones said. "I think those things will take care of themselves. It's my understanding that there's a festival in town this weekend and a lot of the people that normally come out here, some of them are over there. The crowds will take care of themselves.
"I'm worried about putting a good team on the field, not about the crowds."
The Cowboys are in the final year of a three-year contract to hold training camp in Oxnard, however, the club has a three-year option it can exercise.
Cowboys officials have said they'd like to return to Oxnard next year, but nothing has been finalized.
