Jones, McGehee get hits, Marlins beat Hurricanes in spring exhibition
JUPITER, Fla. (AP) -- Garrett Jones and Casey McGehee singled in their only at-bats and the Miami Marlins beat the University of Miami 5-2 Wednesday.
Marlins starter Angel Sanchez pitched two scoreless innings. He allowed two hits and struck out two.
Acquired by the Marlins as part of a trade that sent Ricky Nolasco to the Dodgers last summer, Sanchez is likely to begin the season in the minors.
Four expected members of the Marlins' opening day lineup took the field -- Christian Yelich, Marcell Ozuna, Jones and McGehee.
Infielder Ed Lucas, competing for a utility role with the Marlins, made a pair of errors at shortstop in the third inning.
Zach Collins began the game as the Hurricanes' designated hitter. He exited the game in the top of the sixth, came back into the game at catcher in the bottom of the seventh and hit a solo homer in the ninth.
