Jon Jones threw guys through windows in college brawls, says ex-roommate

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones showed back in August what happens when somebody gets a little too close and tugs on Superman's cape. His next opponent, Daniel Cormier, went forehead-to-forehead with the champ and Jones retaliated with a punch and brawl that crashed across a stage at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas.

It seems Jones' formal training in people-tossing might actually came during his days at Iowa Central Community College, if an old acquaintance is to be believed. In those days, Jones shared a room with new UFC fighter Colby Covington as well as recent bantamweight title contender Joe Soto.

Covington recently joined the MMA Roasted podcast where he talked about some apparent melees that used to ensue during house parties when it was the three wrestlers against a room full of locals that decided to start trouble.

"We got into a lot of trouble," Covington said. "When you're in a small town in Iowa, a lot of kids are farm kids and they always wanted to start some stuff with the wrestlers and I was a national champ in college and Jon was a national champ, so they'd always try to pick fights at our house parties and stuff. We would just clear out the place of a bunch of townies."

"Especially Jon -- he'd be throwing people through windows and stuff. It was nuts.  He has a bad temper, when he gets mad -- he gets mad."

Apparently Jones didn't follow the No. 1 rule of being a good bouncer -- you have to be nice. We just hope the windows were open at the time.

It appears Jones channeled that anger into a pretty successful career as the best UFC light heavyweight champion of all time and maybe the greatest fighter to ever step foot in the Octagon when it's all said and done.
