The worst fears of superstitious Detroit Lions' fans has come true.

Star receiver Calvin "Megatron" Johnson will be on the cover of the Madden NFL 13 video game.

Johnson has said he doesn't believe in the "Madden Curse," but numerous players who have appeared on the cover before him were soon hampered by injuries, including last year's winner, Cleveland running back Peyton Hillis.

Johnson plans to break the curse.

"The people voted," Johnson said during Wednesday's announcement, televised live by ESPN2 from Times Square in New York City. "They got what they wanted.

"I am very grateful for that. This means a lot. This is great."

Johnson beat out Carolina quarterback Cam Newton in the final round of the voting. They were the two finalists of an original 64-player field that was voted on by some 20-million fans in recent weeks.

Johnson said he was "shocked" that it's going to be his face on the cover of the popular video game.

"Just to see yourself on this Madden, seeing all the guys that have been on this the years before, come on, man," Johnson said, shaking his head.

A day earlier, Johnson said the perceived curse wasn't a concern to him.

"I'm not a big guy for curses," he said. "I don't even think about it."
