Jockey Club to post injury stats
A new website created by The Jockey Club allows racetracks to publish their statistics on injuries or fatalities to horses.
The website, announced Monday, will include statistics from 15 North American tracks, including New York's three major tracks and two of California's three biggest tracks, along with Keeneland in Kentucky.
The information has been compiled for the past three years on the Equine Injury Database, the thoroughbred industry's first national database of racing injuries. Jockey Club president James Gagliano said the website is designed to encourage other tracks to make public their data in a standard fashion.
The participating tracks are Aqueduct, Belmont Park, Del Mar, Golden Gate Fields, Gulfstream Park, Keeneland, Laurel Park, Lone Star Park, Pimlico, Portland Meadows, Remington Park, Santa Anita, Saratoga, Turfway Park and Woodbine in Canada.
