Jocketty: No Phillips trade talks
Brandon Phillips' name was in the news over the weekend when a report emerged that the Cincinnati Reds are looking to trade the All-Star second baseman.
Tuesday at a press conference to introduce Bryan Price as the new Reds manager, general manager Walt Jocketty told reporters that is not the case.
"I'm not talking to any clubs about him," Jocketty told Mark Sheldon of MLB.com.
Joe Danneman of Fox 19 reported much the same thing on Twitter, and both indicated Phillips had seen or heard the reports because he asked the GM about them.
"He texted me wanting to know if we were trading him," Jocketty told Sheldon. "I told him that I have not spoken to anybody about that."
He did not rule out a move this offseason but said only baseball -- not off-field issues -- would be considered in any potential trade.
As for Phillips, he seems to approve of the decision to hire Price, who was the team's pitching coach the past four seasons.
