Jeff Gordon to take part in White House Easter Egg Roll
What does four-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Jeff Gordon have planned for his first off-weekend of the 2015 season? Well, go to the White House of course.
Gordon, who said he always looks forward to the Easter holiday, is eager to stay close to home, and has been invited to take part in the 137th annual White House Easter Egg Roll.
Along with visiting the White House for the special occasion, Gordon, his wife, Ingrid, and children, Ella and Leo, will then play tourists in the nation's capital, taking in some of the country's best museums.
"We're going to go up there and do some touring of D.C., which is something I've never done," said Gordon. "We'll take the kids, go the Smithsonian, go around the city and enjoy D.C., like we never have before. Especially Ella, she's getting to the age where she's really interested in these things. Of course Leo is very interested in the Air and Space museum, and the National History museum. So hopefully we have a chance to see all those things."
While Gordon grew up touring the country from behind the wheel of a racecar, the former champion is looking forward to doing it again as a father and family man once he steps away from his full-time role as a driver in 2016.
"I missed out on some things, but I wouldn't trade it for the world," he said. "I am getting to relive that through them. Ingrid is really great about that. She wants to see them get these experiences and when it works out where all of us can have it together then we do. Whether it be in the U.S. or outside the U.S."
By touring the nation as a family, Gordon says it give him a new perspective on things, as he see it all through his children's eyes and experiences. While the family spends time in New York City, Europe and on the occasional red carpet, Gordon is eager to travel and learn more about the United States.
"There are so many great things to see in the U.S. that we don't always take the advantage of," he said. "Ingrid being from Belgium a lot of times we will think of the outside the U.S. so I think it's great that we are staying close to home and doing something that none of us have ever done; in a place that has incredible history and culture and a lot to see."
