MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee Brewers All-Star shortstop Jean Segura is out of the lineup Wednesday due to an illness.
Segura came to the ballpark not feeling well, and Brewers manager Ron Roenicke elected to give him the day off. Roenicke planned on giving the 23-year-old a day off during the Chicago series this weekend, but the illness bumped things up.
"I thought later on made more sense with the off day tomorrow and then another off day (Monday)," Roenicke said. "But he came in and was not looking too good today."
Though he hit just .252 in August, Segura is still second in the National League in hits with 165 and hasn't seen his batting average dip below .300 since Opening Day. Segura has just one home run since the All-Star break, but leads the National League in stolen bases at 39.
Wednesday will mark just the eighth time this season Segura has not started at shortstop for the Brewers. Utility infielder Jeff Bianchi will make his sixth start of the season at shortstop in place of Segura.
