Jason Gay, a sports columnist for The Wall Street Journal, brings a wealth of sports and journalistic experience to Crowd Goes Wild.
Gay joined The Wall Street Journal in 2009, writing a several-times-a-week column which shifts regularly from irreverent topics to more serious themes. He has covered events ranging from the Super Bowl and the Olympics to the Masters and the Tour de France. He has received awards from the Society of Professional Journalists, the National Headliner Awards, the New York Press Club and the New York News Publishers Association.
Born in Boston, Gay grew up in the nearby suburb of Belmont, Mass., where he had a "forgettable" career in baseball, basketball, cross country and tennis. His father, Ward Gay, just completed his 40th season as the boys' tennis coach at Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School in Cambridge, Mass. Gay also competed as an amateur bike racer and has finished dead last in races from Brooklyn, N.Y. to Oregon and Rwanda.
A graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Gay lives in Brooklyn with his wife, Bessie, and their infant son, Jesse, who Jason says can already beat his father in tennis.
