BRISBANE, Australia (AP) Japan and Queensland Reds fullback Ayumu Goromaru will undergo surgery next week after sustaining a separated right shoulder in his side's 35-25 Super Rugby win Saturday over the Sunwolves.

The Reds said in a statement Sunday that Goromaru will be sidelined for 12 weeks, ruling him out of Queensland's final three matches of the season.

Goromaru will also miss Japan's two-test home series against Scotland in June.

The 30-year-old Goromaru was not expected to return to the Reds next season and Japanese media have speculated that he's planning to sign with French side Toulon.

The Japanese international initially thought the injury was not serious, and signed autographs after the match, but the Reds said a later scan revealed the extent of the damage.
