TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Jameis Winston has been nothing short of impressive in his first two starts.

Historically impressive, it appears.

The Florida State redshirt freshman has completed 40 of 45 passes — an 88.9 percent completion percentage that is the best of any Football Bowl Subdivision quarterback in his first two games of a season since 2000, according to research by the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Winston has thrown for six touchdowns — that’s right, more TDs than incompletions — in his first two games for No. 8 Florida State (2-0). He has thrown for 570 yards and also has a rushing touchdown in a season-opening 41-13 win over Pitt and again in Saturday’s 62-7 victory over Nevada.

Florida State plays host to Bethune-Cookman (3-0), which is coming off a 34-13 road win over Florida International, on Saturday at 6 p.m.

The previous best was West Virginia’s Geno Smith, who completed 88 percent of his passes to open the 2012 season.
