Jaguars sign sixth-rounder Luke Bowanko
The Jacksonville Jaguars announced Monday that center Luke Bowanko, their sixth-round selection in the NFL draft, has become the first of their nine players chosen to sign.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, although all rookie contracts not involving first-round picks are for four years. The 6-foot-6, 300-pound Bowanko started every game of his last three years at Virginia. He started the first four games of 2013 at left guard before switching to center because of injuries.
Bowanko worked at tackle and center last weekend at the Jaguars' rookie minicamp but is primarily expected to compete against Mike Brewster, Jacques McClendon and Patrick Lewis for the starting job at center left vacant by the retirement of Brad Meester.
