The Jacksonville Jaguars announced Sunday they have re-signed defensive end Tyson Alualu, who was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent Tuesday, to a two-year contract.
Alualu has not missed a game in five seasons since being a first-round draft pick by the Jaguars in 2010. He was moved from tackle to end in 2013 and spent all of last season backing up Red Bryant, who they signed after the Seattle Seahawks waived him.
Alualu's streak of 80 consecutive games is the sixth-longest in franchise history.
"It's great to get Tyson back here where he can continue to add to our team on and off the field," Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley said in a statement from the team. "He's a player that competes every day in practice and the meeting room and that carries over to games. He was really healthy last year for probably the first time and it showed with his consistent play throughout the season. He understands what is expected and has played a large part in the culture we are trying to establish here."
"This is where I began my NFL career and our family has made Jacksonville home," Alualu added. "It was important for me to be here as we turn this franchise around. I'm really excited about the future and what has been established here. I want to keep raising the bar with my play and strive to be the best player I can possibly be for this group of guys."
