Jackets sign Calvert to two-year contract extension

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: APRIL 23, 2013 BLUE JACKETS RE-SIGN FORWARD MATT CALVERT TO TWO-YEAR CONTRACT EXTENSION
COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed forward Matt Calvert to a two-year contract extension through the 2014-15 National Hockey League season, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.  As is club policy, terms were not disclosed.
“Matt is a dynamic young winger that plays with great tenacity at both ends of the ice and we look forward to his continued development and contributions to our hockey club,” said Kekalainen.
Calvert, 23, has tallied nine goals and seven assists for 16 points with 32 penalty minutes in 42 games played this season, which is his third in the Blue Jackets organization. Originally selected by Columbus with its fifth pick, 127th overall, of the 2008 NHL Draft, he signed a three-year entry level contract with the club on Mar. 18, 2010. He has recorded 20-19-39 and 60 penalty minutes in 97 career appearances with the Blue Jackets.
A native of Brandon, Manitoba, Calvert spent three seasons in the Western Hockey League with his hometown Brandon Wheat Kings, amassing 99-131-230 in 198 games played from 2007-10. The 5-10, 180-pound left wing has also appeared in 128 career American Hockey League contests with the Springfield Falcons, registering 40-42-82 with a cumulative +6 plus/minus rating.
The Blue Jackets return to action Thursday when they visit the Dallas Stars.  Game time from American Airlines Center is set for 8:30 p.m. ET.  Live coverage on FOX Sports Ohio HD begins with the Blue Jackets Live pre-game show starting at 8 p.m.  The game will also be broadcast live on the Blue Jackets Radio Network, including flagship station 97.1 The Fan in Columbus, and online at BlueJackets.com.
