Isaiah Taylor to return to Longhorns for junior season
New Texas Longhorns coach Shaka Smart received some good news Saturday night.
Junior guard Isaiah Taylor will be staying in Austin for another year.
Taylor made his announcement via social media.
Taylor's season (and subsuquently the Longhorns') was derailed after he broke his wrist during a game midseason. Before the injury, he averaged 13.1 points and 4.6 assists.
"When it all came down to it, I didn’t want to leave my teammates and not be a part of something I feel can be special," Taylor said in a statement. "Coach Smart says he needs me here to be the floor leader. I love our team, and I love The University of Texas."
Smart said he's "really excited" about the chance to coach Taylor.
"We've had the chance to work out on the court several times over the past few weeks, and his commitment to improvement has been terrific," Smart said.
Other Big 12 players returning for another season include Kansas' Perry Ellis and conference player of the year Buddy Hield of Oklahoma.
