'Inside the Rays: The Rays Way' premieres June 30 on Sun Sports
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – On Sunday, June 30, 2013, FOX’s Sun Sports will premiere the next episode of “Inside the Rays,” upon the conclusion of the Rays vs. Tigers game.
In this episode, titled “The Rays Way,” fans will get an exclusive look into Tampa Bay’s Minor League system. The term, defined in the show by the players and coaches, relates to the environment of cooperation between the staff and the team to produce pro baseball players. The Rays strive to develop great players who will help the Major League team and mature into good young men.
The Rays have a payroll less than 24 other Major League clubs, yet still remain competitive by developing their own players in the Minor League system. The Rays are the only Major League team that has 9 Minor League teams. This includes two overseas academies in the Dominican Republic and Venezuela.
Fans will also get an inside look at Mitch Lukevics, the Director of Rays Minor League Operations. Mitch oversees the farm systems and has been in Major League baseball for 39 years. Last year, Minor League Baseball presented him with the Sheldon “Chief” Bender Award for distinguished service and being instrumental in player development. Mitch has been with the Rays since the team’s inception in 1998. Mitch has been praised for teaching a modern style of play while maintaining his old-school mentality.
