'Inside the Panthers: The Big Cubano: Al Montoya' to air March 21 on FOX Sports Florida
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (March 20, 2015) -- On Saturday, March 21, at 10:00 p.m., FOX Sports Florida, the regional television home of the Panthers, will premiere a brand new episode of "Inside the Panthers" upon conclusion of the Florida vs. Boston Bruins game. Titled "The Big Cubano: Al Montoya," this season's "Inside the Panthers" series finale spotlights the Panthers goaltender who holds the distinct title of first Cuban-American to play in the NHL.
A native of Glenview, Ill., Montoya was a first-round draft pick of the New York Rangers, following a three-year playing career at the University of Michigan. He spent time with the Rangers, Coyotes, Islanders and Jets before arriving in sunny South Florida. Montoya and his three brothers were raised by Dr. Irena Silva, who emigrated from Cuba as a young child. "Inside the Panthers" explores the Cuban heritage of the family, how Al got started in hockey and his road to the NHL. His presence with the Panthers has also resulted in select Panther games this season being broadcast on radio in Spanish.
