Injuries temper Bengals big first half
Bengals linebacker Rey Maualuga was taken off the field on a cart with a left knee injury and concussion during the second quarter of Sunday's game against the New York Jets at Paul Brown Stadium. The Bengals were leading 21-3 when Maualuga made a tackle on Jets running back Chris Ivory and got tangled up in a pile.
It's the second week in a row the Bengals have had a starting defensive player leave the game on a cart. Last Sunday in Detroit, cornerback Leon Hall tore his right Achilles tendon.
The Bengals went to half with a 28-6 lead but also had injuries to left tackle Andrew Whitworth (knee) and safety Taylor Mays (right shoulder) during the first half.
Quarterback Andy Dalton threw for 257 yards and four touchdowns in the first half as the Bengals outgained the Jets 294-80. Marvin Jones caught three of the touchdowns, equaling a franchise record for most touchdown receptions in a game. Chad Johnson most recently accomplished it on Nov. 25, 2007 vs. Tennessee.
