WACO, Texas (AP) -- Baylor coach Jim Grobe says running back Johnny Jefferson will not play this season as he takes time away from school to recuperate from injuries and deal with personal issues.
Johnson has been dealing with injuries to his foot and ribs and did not play in Baylor's opening victory.
Grobe said Jefferson is still a member of the team and he hopes the junior returns to school next semester.
Jefferson ran for 1,000 yards last season, including 299 in a bowl victory against North Carolina, and figured to be the No. 2 tailback behind Shock Linwood.
