The Indians traded pitcher Scott Barnes to Baltimore on Wednesday for cash considerations. The left-hander was designated for assignment on Sunday after Charles Brewer was acquired from Arizona.

Barnes spent five-plus years in the Indians organization after being acquired from San Francisco for Ryan Garko in 2009. He spent time with the major-league club in 2012-13 and was 0-1 with a 5.20 ERA in 22 appearances. This past season Barnes appeared in 25 games with one start for Triple-A Columbus and was 3-2 with a 3.69 ERA.

Considering that the Tribe's bullpen could return virtually intact, it is difficult to see where Brewer fits in other than possibly starting the year in Columbus.
