Some wondered whether the Twins would take the top high school player in the state of Minnesota in this year's draft. Instead, the Cleveland Indians selected Rochester Century right-hander Mitch Brown in Tuesday's second round with the No. 79 overall pick.
Brown is committed to play college baseball at the University of San Diego and now must make a decision whether to go pro or play at USD.
"I'm still not decided on anything like that," Brown told FOX Sports North before the draft. "Obviously a college education is really valuable and it is important to my family and I. But if the circumstances are right, we will consider a pro contract. I actually have no idea what I'll be doing."
The Twins passed up Brown in Tuesday's second round, where they had the No. 63 and No. 72 picks. They instead took a pair of college pitchers.
Baseball America ranked the 6-foot-2, 205-pound Brown as the No. 44 prospect for this year's draft, including high school and college players. He was easily the top prospect in the state of Minnesota. His fastball consistently reaches 91-92 mph, while he's been clocked at 95 mph this season.
