Indians release pitcher Matt Capps

According to our friends at Indians Baseball Insider, and a variety of other folks, the Indians have released right-handed relief pitcher Matt Capps.  The team has not issued a press release confirming the transaction.Capps was signed earlier this year, a little more than two years after his best season with the Washington Nationals and Minnesota Twins, where he saved 42 games between the two clubs.
Capps has been pitching with the Indians despite learning earlier this month that he would not make the big-league club. The release will give Capps the opportunity to try to latch on with another club.
Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer feels that the team will continue to negotiate with Capps, but that the move will save them a $100,000 retention bonus.
