Indians notes vs. the Brewers
Center fielder and leadoff hitter Michael Bourn has gotten off to a slow start this spring, but manager Terry Francona isn't concerned.
Bourn, who went 0 for 4 in Saturday's 4-4 tie against San Diego, has only one hit in 14 plate appearances and has not drawn a walk while striking out six times.
"I think he's working into it. He knows he's a guy who is going to play 150 games," said Francona. "He's not going to steal a ton of bases down here and has been working on his bunting. As long as he's ready for Opening Day, that's the goal."
Bourn was limited by injuries last year as he played in 130 games. He had an on-base percentage of .316 and stole only 23 bases after having 42 with Atlanta in 2012.
Francona also told reporters during his morning media availability that outfielder Ryan Raburn could play tomorrow when the Indians face the Angels. Raburn smacked the wall while chasing a ball that ended up being a home run in last Friday's win over the Cubs and suffered a contusion to his left knee.
Infielder Elliot Johnson is batting .375 (6 for 16, including a pair of triples) and club-best five RBI. That has raised plenty of eyebrows except for Francona's
"They catch other people's eyes when you get hits," he said. "I don't know that if Elliot was 0 for 10 we would view him any differently than if he was 3 for 10. For us it is what he has done and what he is capable of doing and how he can benefit our team."
