Indians minor-league outfielder Brian Ruiz was suspended 80 games on Friday for a violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

Ruiz, a Cleveland native, tested positive for performance-enhancing metabolites. He played 85 games for Lake County last season, batting .260 with three home runs and 28 RBI. The suspension is effective at the start of the Midwest League season.

This is the second Indians' minor-league player who has received a suspension during the offseason. Last month, pitcher Duke von Schamann received 50 games for a second failed test.

Ruiz went to Lincoln West High School and was drafted in the 41st round by the Indians in 2011. He was with the Arizona Rookie League Indians in 2012, Mahoning Valley in '13 and Lake County last year.
