Indians minor-leaguer suspended for drug violation
Major League Baseball announced on Friday that Duke von Shaumann, who is part of the Indians farm system, has been suspended 50 games for violating the minor-league drug program after a second positive test for a drug of abuse.
The suspension will start at the beginning of the season.
The right-hander was acquired from the Dodgers last season. At Double-A Akron von Shaumann was 8-8 with a 4.20 ERA in 24 games with 20 being starts. He also started two games at Triple-A Columbus, where he went 1-0 with a 6.52 ERA.
Von Schamann is the son of former Dolphins kicker Uwe von Schamann.
Three other players were also handed 50 games for the same violation -- Twins pitcher Hudson Boyd, pitcher Chris Capper, who is a free agent, and Texas outfielder Chris Grayson.
