The record book will now show that Derek Jeter passed Honus Wagner for sixth place on baseball's hit list not against the Indians, but against the Orioles.
On Tuesday, Major League Baseball changed the scoring on a play from the Aug. 9 Indians-Yankees game In the bottom of the first, Jeter reached on what was originally scored an infield single. It has been changed to a missed catch error by Carlos Santana with an assist to Jose Ramirez. As a result, two of the runs that scored in the five-run inning are now unearned. The Yankees ended up winning the game 10-6.
At the time, Jeter tied Wagner with his 3,430th hit and passed him the next day with a single. Jeter's single on Aug. 9 now goes down as the tying hit and a double on Aug. 11 against Baltimore becomes the one where Jeter surpassed Wagner.
The two unearned runs also lowers Trevor Bauer's ERA from 4.35 to 4.18. That might be the only good news for the Indians though since they now have a major league-leading 95 errors. That also goes down as Santana's third error of the season at first base.
