Indians ink OF David Murphy to two-year deal
The Cleveland Indians have signed free-agent OF David Murphy to a two-year contract with an option for 2016, according to Jon Paul Morosi.
The deal is believed to be worth at least $10 million. Murphy, 32, has eight big league seasons under his belt, the past seven with the Texas Rangers. He is coming off a season in which he batted .220 with a .656 OPS, but he has a career .778 OPS and has reached double figures in home runs each of the past six seasons.
Ken Rosenthal reports the Indians value Murphy's defense as a corner outfielder and project 400-500 at-bats for him. Murphy played for Indians manager Terry Francona and bench coach Brad Mills with the Boston Red Sox from 2006-07 as the start of his career.
Murphy will take a physical on Thursday.
