CLEVELAND -- The Indians drew under 10,000 for a game for the eighth time this season, but this one was a record.

The crowd of 9,489 for Tuesday's game against Minnesota is the lowest for a September game in the 21 seasons of Progressive Field. It surpassed the mark of 9,794 for a game against Kansas City last year that was also played on Sept. 9.

Through 71 dates, the Indians are averaging 18,472, which is second-lowest in the Majors. Tampa Bay is averaging 17,627.

Tuesday's crowd was not the worst for the Indians this season. There was a crowd of 8,848 for an April 22 game against Minnesota, which was the second lowest in 21 seasons at Progressive Field. The low-water mark remains 8,726 for an April 3, 2011, game against the White Sox.
