India take control, remove England top order
MOHALI, India (AP) England were in deep trouble against India on day three of the third test, collapsing to 78-4 at stumps in their second innings after the hosts were bowled out for 417 runs in their first innings.
India lead by 56 runs. Joe Root was unbeaten on 36 runs, while Gareth Batty was batting on 0 not out.
Haseeb Hameed did not open the batting owing to his injured hand. Alastair Cook (12) and Root then put on 27 runs for the first wicket.
Cook survived two lbw shouts via DRS reviews off both Ravichandran Ashwin (3-19) and Ravindra Jadeja (0-18). Ashwin then clean bowled him in the 14th over.
Moeen Ali (5) chipped a catch off Ashwin and was caught at mid-on.
Jonny Bairstow was caught behind off Jayant Yadav (1-12), with Parthiv Patel holding a low catch.
England's 50 had come up in the 25th over.
Ashwin trapped Ben Stokes for 5 just before the close of play. The original decision was not out, but it was overturned on DRS review.
