* The Florida Panthers traded Kris Versteeg and minor leaguer Philippe Lefebvre to the Chicago Blackhawks, the team announced late Thursday. In return, Florida received winger Jimmy Hayes and defenseman Dylan Olsen. Read More

* Valtteri Filppula and the Tampa Bay Lightning have kept up a strong start even without their leading scorer. Filppula had two goals and an assist, goalie Ben Bishop won his 13th game this season and the Lightning beat the Anaheim Ducks 5-1 in a matchup of conference leaders Thursday night. Read More

* Reserve James Kelly scored 17 points to lead Miami to an 84-69 victory over Texas Southern Thursday night. The Hurricanes recovered from a 12-0 deficit 5:17 into the game and shot 18-of-28 from the field the rest of the first half. Miami missed its first eight shots. Read More

* An assistant state attorney says prosecutors in Tallahassee did not receive information about an 11-month-old sexual assault allegation involving Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston until Tuesday. Read More

* Could a link to an open investigation, no matter how tenuous the link may be, derail Jameis Winston's Heisman hopes? The Heisman, after all, is a perception award as much as anything. Many voters consider Winston the Heisman front-runner -- ahead of Texas A&M's Johnny Manziel and Alabama's A.J. McCarron -- but they are also cautiously watching and waiting to see what develops in the next few weeks before casting their ballots. Read More

* Richie Incognito filed a grievance Thursday against the Miami Dolphins over his suspension. "The grievance challenges his suspension for conduct which was alleged to have occurred while he was with the club," the union's statement said. "In the grievance, Incognito requests that the hearing be held on an expedited basis so that he can immediately resume playing for the team. Read More

* The NBA's latest Christmas Day campagin has been dubbed "Big Logo" and will feature a large team logo on the front of a sleeved jersey for all team's playing on Dec. 25. The Heat will be featured on Christmas Day for the ninth time in 10 years as they visit the Lakers (5 p.m.). Read More

They snapped a nine-game winless streak Tuesday night and are once again expressing optimism. There's a tangible difference in the locker room atmosphere. They are showing an enthusiasm that had been missing for a few weeks. And when it comes to discussing new coach Peter Horachek and assistants Brian Skrudland and John Madden, players are vocal about their appreciation for a more simple system and accountability.
