Impemba named Michigan's top sportscaster
Mario Impemba, play-by-play announcer for FOX Sports Detroit’s coverage of the Detroit Tigers, has been recognized as Michigan Sportscaster of the Year for 2011 as voted upon by the membership of the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association (NSSA).
In addition to this Tigers work, Impemba also serves as the radio and TV play-by-play voice for Oakland Golden Grizzlies men’s basketball.
Impemba, entering his 11th Tigers season with FOX Sports Detroit, is among the 103 state sportscasters and sportswriters to be honored during the NSSA's 53nd Annual Awards banquet June 11 at the organization’s headquarters in Salisbury, North Carolina.
Mark Snyder of the Detroit Free Press is the recipient of the Michigan Sportswriter of the Year award.
In addition to the state award winners, the NSAA will recognize its 2011 Hall of Fame inductees Bob Costas and John Feinstein, as well as National Sportscaster of the Year Dan Shulman and National Sportswriter of the Year Joe Posnanski.
FOX Sports Detroit's Red Wings announcer Ken Daniels is a two-time recipient of the Michigan Sportscaster of the Year award (2003 and 2010).
