ICC suspends former chief curator of Galle for 3 years
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) The ICC has suspended the former chief curator of Galle Stadium in Sri Lanka for three years for failing to cooperate with its Anti-Corruption Unit.
Jayananda Warnaweera failed to attend scheduled interviews with the ACU on two separate occasions and the game's governing body said Wednesday that he also failed to provide documents in connection with the ongoing investigation.
Last year, Sri Lanka Cricket suspended Warnaweera for two years from all cricket activities, based upon alleged contact with bookmakers.
ACU chairman Ronnie Flanagan said ''the ICC takes no pleasure in imposing a suspension, but this decision clearly illustrates what the code means to the ICC and how seriously we take matters that relate to corruption.''
Warnaweera played 10 tests between 1986-94 and took 32 wickets.
