Hurricanes lose top recruits Brandon Powell, Nigel Bethel II
University of Miami head coach Al Golden and the Hurricanes lost out on a pair of four-star recruits late Thursday leading into Friday.
Brandon Powell, a running back from Deerfield Beach High School, switched from Miami to Florida. Powell was listed as one of eight early enrollees expected on the Coral Gables campus this week.
Powell, who rushed for 1,339 yards and 20 touchdowns, didn't even have an offer from the Gators until earlier this week.
''Gotta feed the fam. Been struggling for too long,'' Powell tweeted late Thursday.
Miami Booker T. Washington cornerback Nigel Bethel II committed to Texas Tech. According to his Twitter, teammate and UM commit Demetrius Jackson is scheduled to visit Lubbock later this month.
''I appreciate everyone that's happy for me and my decision...y'all will see the outcome in bout 3-4 years,'' Bethel II tweeted.
Four early enrollees have arrived for orientation at Miami: wide receiver Braxton Berrios, defensive end Trent Harris, linebacker Juwon Young and offensive lineman Kc McDermott. The spring semester starts on Monday.
There are now 26 commits in Miami's recruiting Class of 2014, which still ranks in the top 10. National Signing Day is Feb. 5.
