All-Star goalie Jimmy Howard has suffered a broken little finger that will cause him to miss at least the next two games, according to the Red Wings' official Twitter account.

The team says he will be reevaluated on Tuesday, after the Wings close out their West Coast road trip at Phoenix late Monday.

Howard suffered the injury in the third period of Thursday night's shootout win over the Vancouver Canucks.

Even with the broken pinky, Howard stayed on the ice for the rest of the game, including overtime and a shootout. The victory pushes Howard's record to a perfect 6-0 in shootouts this season.

The Wings also announced that they have recalled goalie Joey MacDonald from their minor-league affiliate in Grand Rapids for the first time this season. MacDonald will serve as backup for Ty Conklin, who will close out the road trip at Edmonton and Phoenix.

Howard has emerged as one of the league's top goalies this season, posting a 32-11 record with a 2.03 goals-against average and five shutouts, all of which earned him the starting spot in the All-Star Game last week. Howard was the first goalie in the NHL to reach 30 wins this season, and only the second goalie -- Martin Brodeur in '02-03 and '03-04 is the other -- to reach the esteemed tally first in consecutive seasons.

Conklin is 3-5 this season with a goals-against average of 3.20 in eight starts.
