How a missed FG return was almost disaster for Rams

The end of the half in the 49ers/Rams game was certainly an odd one.

San Francisco missed a 55-yard field goal attempt as time expired, and the Rams put Tavon Austin in the end zone to return the kick if it came up short.

It did, and disaster almost struck. The refs ruled that Austin got tackled but the ball had been outside of the end zone when he was contacted, so the fact that he was dragged back into the end zone didn't matter.
