Hong Kong allrounder Irfan Ahmed suspended for 2 1/2 years
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) The International Cricket Council has suspended Hong Kong allrounder Irfan Ahmed for 2 1/2 years for breaching the anti-corruption code.
Ahmed was not charged with any offense involving corruption, but the ICC says its Anti-Corruption Unit established that the 26-year-old allrounder failed to disclose ''full details of approaches or invitations to engage in corruption conduct that had been made to him in between Jan. 2012-Jan. 2015.''
ACU chairman Ronnie Flanagan says it's a ''worrying trend that those intent on corrupting the game are increasingly focusing their activities on associate member cricket and that the sport therefore needs to ensure that it is appropriately resourced and protected in that area.''
Ahmed's suspension starts from Nov. 4, 2015, when he was provisionally suspended, and ends May 4, 2018.
